Coolangatta

About Coolangatta, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia

Bordering the states of Queensland and New South Wales, Coolangatta is a popular holiday destination. It is part of the Gold Coast, one of world’s most beautiful areas back dropped with vast mountains, waterfalls, valleys and national parks. Coolangatta is one of the earliest resort destinations on the Gold Coast and less commercial compared to other neighbouring Gold Coast suburbs.

Coolangatta still remains laid back with a casual village culture and warmth.

The history of Coolangatta dates back to Captain Cooks’ journey to the Gold Coast and his stop over. During one such stop he named Point Danger where later a lighthouse was built and now converted to a memorial for Captain Cook. The name Coolangatta came from a schooner which was wrecked just off the coast after it dragged its anchor. The memorial is a worthwhile visit.

Coolangatta offers plenty of entertainment for holiday makers and activity seekers. From diving to surfing, there are numerous attractions to keep visitors busy. Coolangatta and Green Mount Beach which line the coast, are both ideal for surfing. To the east is a small cove called Rainbow Bay and Snapper Rocks. Kirra beach on the west is the most popular destination for surfers with its challenging waves.

Currumbin Sanctuary can be found to the north of Coolangatta and has the largest collection of Australian native mammals and birds.

Coolangatta has many accommodation options to choose from with 5-star apartments to beachfront resorts like Points North and Mantra Coolangatta Beach Apartments.

Coolangatta offers some beautiful holiday accommodation options with resorts and apartments strategically located along the Coolangatta beachfront. Coolangatta is Queensland's most southerly coastal town, the gateway to the Gold Coast and Northern New South Wales. Located on the border next to Tweed Heads. Coolangatta is the perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing holiday with the excitement of all the Gold Coast's attractions being just minutes away.

Some of best swimming beaches are located at Coolangatta and surfing beaches located just around the Corner at Rainbow Bay.

If you want to head across the border you can visit Tweed Heads. Tweed Heads plays host to Twin Towns Services Club, great shopping centres and some top fishing spots as well.

We know you will love Coolangatta with a resident population of approximately 4500 people and plenty of sunshine year round (in fact an average of 300 days a year) and temperatures range from 20ºC - 28ºC in Summer and from 11ºC - 21ºC in Winter, it's no wonder this is one of Australia's favourite playgrounds.
